Knock sensor

Q. Explain why we are reading a voltage from this sesnsor when we are not supplying a voltage to it?
A. Knock sensor is a piezoelectric device mounted to the cylinder block which generates the voltage whenever it exposed to vibrations. It is made up of Piezo crystals that vibrates with vibrations and this vibration energy is then converted into electricity.
